Waterflow Continues from Lake Lanier Fueling Concerns |

As the Governors of Georgia, Alabama and Florida continue to work on an agreement for the allocation of water from the Chattahoochee River, the Army Corp of Engineers continue to release water from Buford Dam. As of November 5th, the release is now occurring twice a day as seen in the graph at the bottom of this article.
This dispute has been going on for more than two decades. This year's severe drought has had a dramatic effect on the water level of Lake Lanier. All three states utilize the water from the Chattahoochee River and there is concern that the metro Atlanta area may be without drinking water in the next three or four months.
The chart above continues to show that water is still being released from Lake Lanier as discussions continue between the three states. Georgia was planning to take the Army Corp of Engineers to court to reduce this flow, but that was dropped in order to facilitate the negotiations between the states. On November there was still no agreement between the three states and the water continues to flow as before.
