Blue Ridge Welcomes Santa to Georgia! Print E-mail
Sunday, 25 November 2007
Santa and Sleigh
It's the Saturday after Thanksgiving and thoughts now turn to the biggest holiday season of the year. The jolly old elf, Santa Claus, heads south to begin his list of children's wishes this season. His first stop in Georgia is the town of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Visitors will find that the town has been transformed into a Christmas paradise by the local residents.

Starting early in the morning, the downtown park is transformed with lights, decorated trees and a flurry of activities to start this season off in a big way. Crowds of local folks and visitors from across Georgia are anticipated during the days to come. Everyone wants to make sure there is plenty to do for the children, and this town certainly knows how to accomplish that! As 11:00am rolls around, a stage is filled with tubas to play Christmas music. People pack the area top sing carols and welcome the holiday season. There is an express mailbox at the park which ensures that wish lists reach Santa quickly, and an area he can sit at to listen to children's wishes in person.

With daytime temperatures above freezing, Santa makes his way into town on the front of a red train alongside Mrs Claus. Santa did not leave the reindeer and sleigh behind at the North Pole. He and his wife transfer from the train to the sleigh to travel around town in a grand parade in his honor. Temperatures above freezing require reindeer to stay on the ground.

There are children dancing in the streets to entertain the crowds. Local shops are filled with all kind of goodies, just in case you need that special gift for someone. Food and drink are a short walk in any direction from the festivities. Because there was a lack of snow, bubbles filled the air as a substitute. Blue Ridge does not chance anything when welcoming Santa. Music fills the air and the day has events planned throughout the day. Saturday evening, the town Christmas lights are turned on to turn this into a holiday dream.

The lack of snow didn't seem to bother anyone as bubbles filled the air to give the illusion of snowfall.

The crowds of visitors sang Christmas carols to the sounds of a "Tuba Christmas Concert".
