Amicalola Falls State Park, located in the north Georgia mountains close to Dawsonville, is an excellent park to visit for the entire family. Recently, NorthGeorgiaWeekly went there to take their Wetland Hike. This hike was well attended by a rather large group of adults and children, and started near the top of the falls at the outdoor ampatheater.
Damon Eggert, one of the park rangers at Amilcalola Falls, led the group on a hike that lasted about two hours. His stories and knowledge of the park entertained the entire group. The hike itself was not difficult for all ages and included frequent stops to point out things that may be overlooked by lone hikers. A video is included to give you a feel for the hike.
Events such as this hike are scheduled throughout the summer. The wetlands hike started at 10:00am. Call ahead for information about all the hiking trips available.
