Drive 8 miles north of Elberton, Georgia and you will pass a small roadside park with large monoliths of granite in a field. If you take the time to stop, you will find the curious structure shown above. You are at the Georgia Guidestones.

Standing just shy of 20 feet tall, this interesting structure was constructed in 1980 and is made of of large granite stones with a variety of ancient text on each. The languages include Sanskrit, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Greek and Babylonian Cuneiform as well as a translation.

Aligned with the compass, it sits alone in a field allowing you to have a great view of the surrounding area. Visitors can walk around the structure and admire the size and work that went into it's creation. It isn't something you come across that often and has a feel as if you are looking at Stonehenge in England.

Call the Elbert county Chamber of Commerce for directions.
