Fall Colors in the Georgia Mountains Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 October 2007
Vogel Park ColorsVogel State Park is showing signs this week that fall is upon us. Drive anywhere in the north Georgia mountains and the signs are there.

Of course, the next two weeks will see the mountains explode in color as the leaves change. This is one of the best times of the year to drive in the mountains. The temperatures are mild and the leaves look magnificent! The traffic also builds as people flock to see the fall wonders. Vogel State Park was full with tourist from around the state as well as other states close by. Fall wildflowersAn additional splash of color has been added by the sides of roads and highways in the mountains with wildflowers planted by the Georgia DOT as well as the park services. This extra color is certain to make this year's drive much more enjoyable. Butterflies and bees work to fill their hives with honey before the cold weather hits.

The Richard Russell Scenic Highway just north of Helen, Georgia is a good starting point for a drive to Blairsville, Georgia to see grand vista views of this year's fall colors. There are many parking areas on the side of the roads to stop and see the mountains disappear to the horizon with abundant splashes of colors. Take your camera too because you are sure to want pictures. A picnic basket may not be a bad idea either. There are also many trails off the road leading towards hidden locations to relax and view the mountains at their finest.
